Elegant black wooden frame with tapering legs and tall shaped tapering backrest. Original woven rush seats in good condition. The chairs, with the low seat, make fantastic sculptural accent pieces and as fireside chairs, as accent chairs in a living room, or foyer, or bedroom. The first Chiavari chairs were made in 1807 and these Chiavari chairs are famous for their light but strong and elegant frames. In the 1950s and 1960s Gio Ponti and Sanguineti used the principles of the superleggera Chiavari chairs for their own designs.
