He played major league baseball from 938 to 959 as outfielder for the St. Louis Cardinals, New York Yankees, Kansas City Athletics and the Milwaukee Braves, appeared in the 942, 946, 956, 957 and 958 World Series, was selected 0 times as an All-Star, and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 985. In 946 he led the National League with 30 RBI and led the Cardinals to a World Series win over the Boston Red Sox. In the seventh game of that series, Slaughter made a famous "Mad Dash" for home from first base on Harry Walker's double in the eighth inning of game seven with two outs and the game tied 3-3. This play was named #0 on the Sporting News list of Baseball's 25 Greatest Moments in 200. Slaughter was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 985; his jersey number nine was retired by the Cardinals in 996, and the team dedicated a statue depicting his famous Mad Dash in 999. George John Kurowski was born in Reading, PA and died in 999 in Sinking Springs, PA. He played major league baseball from 94 to 949 as infielder for the St. Louis Cardinals, appeared in the 942, 943, 944 and 946 World Series, and was selected 5 times as an All-Star. Kurowski's childhood nickname came from his already white hair. He overcame childhood osteomyelitis, which made him miss a part of a bone on his right forearm. Ervin Frank Dusak (Four Sack) was born in 920 in Chicago, IL and died in 994 in Glendale Heights, IL. He played major league baseball from 94 to 952 as infielder and outfielder for the St. Louis Cardinals and the Pittsburgh Pirates, and appeared in the 946 World Series. He got his nickname from a poem a fan wrote after he hit a home run in the minors. After retiring in 952, Dusak was an insurance agent for 2 years and worked in a bowling alley for a decade.
