1944 Presidential Election "DEWEY-BRICKER" Pinback BUTTON 1st Loss to ROOSEVELT

Description: FOR the complete story, FULL DETAILS and BIG CLEAR PICTURES, Please SEE THE DESCRIPTION 1944 Presidential Election "DEWEY-BRICKER" Pinback BUTTON 1st Loss to ROOSEVELT Description This is a veteran, political, “Presidential Election” pinback button, made for the 1944 election that pitted Thomas Edmund Dewey, the Governor of New York and John William Bricker, a Senator from Ohio, against the three-term incumbent Franklin Delano Roosevelt running for his fourth term and his new Vice-Presidential candidate Harry S. Truman. We all know how that turned out.   As it has a Duck on the back, I believe the button was made by the “Green Duck Company”, founded in 1906, by George G. Greenburg and Harvey Ducgheisel. It became Chicago's go-to manufacturer for all things small metal. Their factory was on Clybourn Avenue, a stone's throw from Wrigley Field. Countless campaigns wore the Green Duck badge. Though their doors finally closed in 2004, the Green Duck's legacy survives.   Weight: 1.29 Grams, 20 Millimeters, Metal. "A Guide Book to United States Medals and Tokens" by Katherine Jaeger. (General Reference). Face: DEWEY • BRICKER • Red, white and blue. • Thomas Dewey ran for President during his first term as Governor of New York and lost to Franklin Roosevelt. Then Roosevelt died in office and Truman became President. Truman: “I got called to the White House to see the President. When I got there, I found out I was the President” … Dewey ran for President again during his second term as Governor and lost again, even though he was expected to win. “Give that man a Dewey button” became a popular saying referring to an unexpected loss.   Reverse: Just to the right of the pin can be seen the Duck’s head, so I think it was GREENDUCK CO. CHICAGO • Union bugs. • The pin is still solid and strong.   The "Pinback": A slightly wounded veteran button, it looks like its original owner wore it awhile because it has some chips and marks. It will be sent in a padded envelope for protection. As grading is subjective, please see the pictures and judge for yourself.   Remember, FREE SHIPPING to the USA!
