Stilwell arrives in England This is an original press photo. Lieutenant General Joseph W. Stilwell, Commanding General of U.S. Army Forces in China, India and Burma, shown arriving at an air station somewhere in England. General Stilwell announced upon his arrival that he was in England for military conferences with Lieutenant General Jacob L. Devers, commanding the E.T.O. and other high military commanders. General Stilwell, native of Florida, graduated from the U.S. Military Academy, West Point, in 1904. He was appointed to his present grade in February 1942. (nineteen-forty-two.) He has served in the Philippines, on the faculty of the Military Academy, with the British 58th Division, the 17th French Corps and the American Expeditionary Force General Headquarters, in France in 1917 and 1918. Participating at LaFere, Verdun, Toul and St. Mihiel, he was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal. During his military career he has served in China four times.
