Scrap Iron. Enough old metal to provide the scrap necessary to build two 35,000-ton battleships has been gathered by "waste wardens" in 90 General Motors war plants since the first of the year. Including the flow of production scrap from metal finishing machines, the total haul from General Motors' intensive scrap drive amounts to 531,000,000 pounds of iron, steel, copper, aluminum and other metals essential to the war effort.
