1940s Vending Machine Mutoscope Card Just The Type/What Hoe-1873

Description: Welcome to Anordictrader! Mutoscope cards were still images, typically of pin-up material, printed on cards and sold through vending machines. These cards measured 5 1/4 inches by 3 1/4 inches (approximately 13.3 cm × 8.3 cm). They gained popularity during the 1940s and were published by the International Mutoscope Reel Company and other firms. Unlike individual pictures from Mutoscope reels, these cards had no connection to the Mutoscope motion-picture device. Each card carried the inscription “A Mutoscope card”. Most Mutoscope cards featured pin-up material, but some also included other types of images, such as Jimmy Hatlo cartoons. These cards were distributed through coin-operated vending machines, often found in places like amusement parks. Interestingly, in cinematography literature, the term “Mutoscope cards” is also used to refer to the individual cards that make up a Mutoscope reel. These cards correspond to the individual frames of the original film from which the reel was produced. Item condition: Please view photo(s) for more details.
