Description: Offered is a vintage original propeller that has been in our family for over 50 years and we would like to find a good home for it. As the images show, the offered propeller has 8 bolts and it measures 98.5” tip-to-tip, the width at the center base is 6”, the hub diameter is 8”, and the center hole diameter is 3 ¾”. The weight is just under 28 pounds. It seems it was once cut in half, likely for ease of transportation, and then reassembled. This is not a clean, unused propeller. This propeller has tons of use and it is clear it saw a lot of high flying action back in its day. It is a true piece of our USA aviation history, including very probable use with our great WWII military training program (see added information below). As the last two images show, the specifications on the side of the center base are legible but tough to read and are as follows: SensenichPart #42K19593Serial # AF4354381220HP 2100 RPM A Note on Delivery: Ideal for pick up in Orland Park, IL or I am willing to drive a couple hours from Orland Park to meet you elsewhere or delivery personally, as long as its within 2 hours. Otherwise, I can crate it to ship domestically but will need to charge $300 for expected cost for materials, crating, and ground shipping. Any unusual shipping circumstances (e.g., Hawaii, Alaska, International, etc.) should be discussed in advance of purchase. Information About the Propeller: I posted on the Forum section of the woodenpropeller.com website and Administrator DBahnson was super kind to respond with the following information: “The 42 in Part #42K19593 is the year of the military contract used to produce the propeller. The corresponding civilian model number (90LA -76) which translates to the aircraft as Boeing PT17 with the Continental R670 engine. It likely had Sensenich decals that have been removed. More Information about the PT-17 Aircraft is as follows: From 1934 until February 1945, the Stearman Aircraft Co., a division of the Boeing Aircraft Co., built a total of 8,428 model 75 airplanes for the U.S. Army & U.S. Navy for use as primary trainers. During this 11-year span, more American military pilots learned to fly in the Stearman model 75 than any other airplane. The Army & Navy both used the trusty Stearman where they were referred to primarily as a PT-17. Although the Stearman was challenging to fly in the hands of a student pilot with no previous experience, it allowed instructors to quickly evaluate student performance and move those who were not progressing into other jobs. Made primarily out of wood & fabric with a steel tube fuselage, the Stearman was one of the strongest trainers built during WW II. After the war, many Stearmans soldiered on for decades as crop dusters and air show performers. The remaining examples of this classic aircraft are now sought by collectors worldwide. Background about the Sensenich Company: The Sensenich Brothers Co. was founded in 1932 by Harry & Martin Sensenich after they built their own propeller following an accident. Harry & Martin Sensenich, Lancaster, PA boys, constructed an air driven farm wagon using an old WWI aircraft engine & propeller. Lacking funds to repair the propeller following an accident, they borrowed tools from their father and built their own. From this experience, the Sensenich Brothers Co. was born in 1932. During WWII, with experience from volume production for military trainer aircraft, Sensenich became the largest manufacturer of wooden, fixed-pitch propellers for light aircraft. In 1948 the company also began producing metal-fixed-pitch propellers for general aviation. More recently Sensenich introduced ground adjustable composite propellers.
