1940s ARMY TRANSPORT Ship Card BELL Bread D59 U.S.A National DEFENSE World War 2

Description: This colorful card is one in a series of 24 cards issued by the BELL BAKERIES of New Britain Connecticut One was inserted into each package of their brand of BELL BREAD . I believe that this series is the series is designated as series D59 in Burdick’s American Card Catalogue and is entitled “NATIONAL DEFENSE” Burdick does not provide a date for this series but I believe it to have been issued in mid to late 1940’s. Each card features a beautifully illustrated image of an aspect of the Armed Forces of the United States, on the front signed by the Artist ROBERT RUSSELL, well known for his illustrations for many publications and advertising work in the 1930’s and 40’s. The back provides instructions to send away for a NATIONAL VICTORY ALBUM to paste these cards into. There are two variations of the backs with this series. One that features the regular Bell Bread , and one that states “Now Enriched” This is the “NOW ENRICHED” BACK VARAINT. The Card measures 4 ½ inches by 2 7/8 inches approximately . This card features a ARMY TRANSPORT . The card does have a small hole in the border area. Other than that it is free from creases and i think displays well. I have scanned the front and back of the card fairly large so you can determine the condition for yourself.
