Description: I have for sale an alternate medal/badge from the 1940 Republican National convention that was held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. At this convention Wendell Willkie was nominated for president, but he lost the presidential election to Franklin D. Roosevelt. The medal has five parts. The top pin back piece in the center, in red enamel, reads ALTERNATE. Above the center it shows an eagle and below the center it shows a tiny liberty bell and two shields. Next is a short faded red, white and blue ribbon. Attached to the short ribbon in red enamel, it reads PHILADELPHIA. The bottom piece reads REPUBLICAN NATIONAL - CONVENTION and below it has the year 1940 and shows Liberty Hall. There is a long, faded red ribbon behind. The medal is four inches long and the top pin back piece is 1 1/2 inch wide. It looks to be bronze and its in circulated condition, see photos. It was made by the Bastian Brothers of Rochester, New York. Please see over 950 more collectibles for sale in my EBAY STORE at TE Collectables. (19,291 ERD)
