I found the following information regarding Gerald Thompson’s execution online, it was contained in the “Daily Illini” Newspaper dated October 15, 1935: Gerald Thompson , Ravish-Killer , Dies in Electric Chair After He Embraces the Catholic Religion JOLIET , Oct . 15 —( Tuesday )—( iP ) —Fortified by a newly embraced religion , Gerald Thompson , 26 , was electrocuted in the old Joliet prison early today for the ravishment-mur-dur of pretty Mildred Hallmark , 19-year-old Peoria cafeteria hostess . His executioners strapped him into the lethal chair at 12 : 15 a . m . and prison authorities officially termed him dead one minute and 40 seconds later . Two priests of the Catholic faith comforted him in his last hours before he went to the death chamber , where among the witnesses sat John Hallmark , father of the slain girl . The doomed man s last words , as relayed by his guards , were . I holsno malice toward anybody ; forgiveeverybody . Im sorry for all my sins and may God have mercy on my soul and accept me . In addition to the priest s counsel , Thompson was bolstered at the end by a letter from a young woman in Peoria , who had stood stanchly by him . This missive , which Thompson turned over to his mother as she left , him , adjured him to be game and trust in God . The . crime for which Thompson was executed was branded one of the most brutal in Peoria crime annals . Miss Hallmark was struck a heavy blow when she resisted the advances of her escort and her body was found in a cemetery ditch next morning . Suspicion- was cast on Thompson when other young women told of having been attacked by him . FREE shipping within the USA. I do not ship internationally.
