This vintage photograph is offered for sale as a collectible item and conveys no transfer of copyright. 1928 Press Photo Yacht Illyria of Cornelius Crane Arriving in New York City The brigantine-rigged yacht Illyria, built at Lussinpiccolo, Italy, for Cornelius Crane of Chicago and Ipswich, Massachusetts, shown as it arrived in New York City after a stormy trip from the Mediterranean. The yacht will be used on a 30,000-mile expedition through the Pacific Ocean to collect zoological specimens for the Field Museum of Natural History of Chicago. The Illyria is 147 feet long and has a 30-foot beam. In addition to her sails, she has a 300-horsepower diesel engine. The yacht will start to Bermuda, through the Panama Canal to the Pacific isles, then to make inter immediate stops in Asia, up the coast, back across to Alaska and down the west coast of the American continent to the Canal and home to Boston. It is expected that the expedition will take a little more than two years. Photo measures 7.75 x 10.25 inches. Photo Is dated 1928.
