Description: This listing is for a 1919 cancelled check from the Chicago Cubs that was paid to Blankenhorn Hunter Co. Blankenhorn Hunter Company was formed by David F. Blankenhorn and Robert E. Hunter in 1914. In 1919 additional partners, Garrettson Dulin and E.S. Dulin were added to the firm. Also in 1919, Blankenhorn and Hunter participated in the acquisition of Santa Catalina Island Company along with William Wrigley, Jr. of Chicago. The following is from the Los Angeles Daily News (https://www.dailynews.com/2009/09/12/the-man-who-bought-catalina/): David Blankenhorn, born in Pasadena in 1886, handled the purchase of what is now the Tournament House on Orange Grove for William Wrigley. His Blankenhorn-Hunter Company had become a leading real estate investment organization. In 1919, Blankenhorn-Hunter formed a syndicate to buy Santa Catalina Island from the Banning family with William Wrigley a major participant. David Blankenhorn became president of the Santa Catalina Island Company. Wrigley wanted to hold and develop the island; other stockholders wanted to sell off land at a profit. Wrigley prevailed by buying a controlling interest. This check is signed by John O. Seys, an executive of the team who died in 1938 making his autograph rare! This is a piece of not only Chicago Cubs history but also Catalina Island and California history. The check was endorsed with a stamp on the reverse and is dated March 29, 1919 (3/29/1919) and was for $10.05. Please see pictures and ask any questions you may have.
