Description: Up for sale is a gorgeous mid-grade 1907 $10 Gold Certificate. This is the extremely rare Fr 1170 with Napier-Thompson signatures, a scarce and short printing made for less than 3 months. This variety with the 1882 gold clause is much rarer than the 1170a with 1907 gold clause. This note features a low 6 digit serial and was a Napier-McClung plate that was still serviceable and altered to the Thompson signature when he took office, as was customary. Just the 1907 notes themselves are much rarer than their 1922 counterparts, with the 1922 printing larger than all of the signatures of the 1907 printing combined. This $10 Gold Certificate is the only printing to carry the portrait of Michael Hillegas, the first treasurer of the United States. These were also redeemable for actual gold coin. Surprising that any still exist today as most people would have redeemed them for actual gold before redemption was ended in 1933. The note grades Very Fine in my opinion. It still has nice body to the paper and strong colors. Has not been washed or messed with as so many of these have been. Still has great eye appeal. Please check pics and judge grade for yourself. This tough signature and 1882 clause variety lists for $910 in VF in CDN / Greensheet with very few known. As of this listing, the only other one on ebay is in similar condition for $1,399. Thanks for looking and have a great day!
