Description: 600 page COMPLETELY FILLED OUT antique Wisconsin General Store sales ledger / journal / day book - Although the name of the general store and its location are not actually marked on or in the ledger, I believe I have correctly ascertained that information from paging through it. I noticed multiple entries inside for items sold to the " Village of Montfort " and to " Montfort High School ". In addition, there was an antique invoice tucked inside one of the pages reading " David James , Dealer in General Merchandise , Montfort , Wis " . I WILL INCLUDE THAT INVOICE WITH THIS SALES BOOK. I also noticed there are many entries scattered throughout of sales to " David James ". ..... I conclude David James was the owner of the general store this sales book reflects sales of and that the general store was located in Montfort, Wisconsin. It would make perfect sense that David James would purchase items he needed for himself and his family from his own general store rather than buying from competitors. Attributes - the handwritten entries were done fairly neat. I believe at times in the sales book, at least two different clerks made entries. It starts out on Page 1 dated Saturday, December 1, 1906 . The last date noted appears to be on Page 596 which is Friday, October 8, 1909 . The sales book does continue on through page 600 but no other dates are shown on those last four pages. This general store appears to have not been open 7 days a week. It did not record sales each and every day between the dates 12/1/06 and 10/8/09 its 600 pages cover but sales were made often enough during that nearly 3 year time period. I noted in the Condition section that the clerk tore out Page 599-600 but then filled out the next page after it, which was blank, and hand numbered that page 599 and 600 so there still are technically 600 numbered pages in this sales book. I went through it page by page, and other than there being that substituted Page 599/600 at the very back, no other pages are missing. Condition - used/preowned, read condition section AND I also wanted to mention several pages inside are dog eared. There are scattered smudges and non-catastrophic ink stains scattered about the inside pages. There are small tears here and there, again, nothing major. Length - 600 pages ... every single page has handwritten entries on it Size - when closed, it is 6 and 1/2 inches wide , 15 and 3/4 inches long , and 1 and 3/4 inches thick Year(s) - mainly used and written in by the general store's bookkeeper from Dec. 1, 1906 through Oct. 8, 1909 , not every day during that time period but often enough Age - 110 years old (since the last recorded entry was in 1909) *** Note about the Entries - most entries record customers' names, items sold and prices charged. The majority of entries from page 1 until about page 465 are mostly in ink with a small percentage in pencil. Then, from page 466 onward, the opposite happens where most entries are in pencil with a small percentage in ink ... a change in clerks recording entries in the sales book, perhaps? This general store enjoyed repeat business as several customers' names appear several times throughout its pages as they routinely purchased items from the store. This general store sold such items as oil , butter , eggs , soap , galoshes , potatoes , buckwheat , flour , gloves , tablecloth , crackers , safety pins , sugar , slippers , shoes , syrup , axes , wool socks , etc. .......... This general store also used this sales book to record their inventory purchases from other major sellers. It has entries inside for well known businesses such as Marshall Field & Co., Carson Pirie Scott & Co., Valvoline Oil Co., Corbin Sons & Co., Capital City Paper Co., Standard Rubber Shoe Co., Swift & Co., Lowe Brothers Co., Franklin MacVeagh & Co., Standard Cigar Co., Washburn Crosby Milling Co., The Spool Cotton Company, Butler Bros., and M.J. Power & Co. . To Clarify - the winner here receives this filled out antique 600 page general store Sales day book AND the antique invoice of David James Dealer in General Merchandise I found tucked inside it. The invoice is actually a Balance Due notice written to a Mr. T. H. Bidduk (sic?) in the amount of $5.32 .
