Printed photogravure by Goupil of Mihaley Munkacsy's painting of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791) conducting his Requiem Mass. Mozart composed part of the Requiem in Vienna in late 1791; however, at the time of his death on December 5th that same year, the Requiem was not finished. In 1792, Franz Xaver Sussmayr delivered a finished version to Count Franz von Walsegg, who had commissioned the piece for a requiem service to commemorate the anniversary of his wife's death on February 14th.
