Description: Orang-Outang, five Homo Sylveftris: or, the Anatomy of a Pygmie Compared with that of a Monkey, an Ape, and a Manto which is added:A Philological Essay Concerning the Pygmies of the Ancients by Edward Tyson, M.D., F.R.S., A.D. 1699. Now Edited, with an introduction treating of Pigmy Races and Fairy Tales, by Bertram Windle. "Five hundred and fifty copies of this Edition have been printed, five hundred of which are for sale." This reprinting from 1894 is entitled Bibliotheque de Carabas vol IXThe groundbreaking essay by Edward Tyson that originally was one of the first items of print to suggest a link between man and ape. "Wherein it will appear that they were all either Apes of Monkeys; and not Men as formerly pretended". Limited reprinting containing additional essays and a forward by Bertram Windle. Measurements: 207 pages in English, non illustrated8" x 5" x 3/4"Condition: This item is quite used and shows significant wear. The paper folded cover is ripped and torn on the top right half, and is at risk of further tearing unless handled very carefully. Please note, the book was originally "unopened" or "uncut", wherein the tops of the pages where still attached together. There 8 folds in the book where the pages are still unopened and bound together. The other pages which had been cut open are jagged and in some cases torn unevenly at the top. There are 5 pages torn in the same manner as pictured in photo 3 above. The very back cover is torn in half (see photo 5 above). The binding is still in place but quite loose, cracked in middle. There are no markings or writing on any of the pages. Would make a very unique and special gift for anyone fond of oddities and antique medical accounts. Very interesting! Please let me know if you have any questions or require additional photos. Best wishes from New Orleans!
