Smaller denominations of $1, $2, and $5 were introduced in 1886 and continued to be issued until 1963. From 1964 to 1968, these notes could be redeemed at the Treasury for pre-packaged silver bullion granules rather than coins. Redemption for any form of silver ended on June 24, 1968.
