Description: Antique Photogravure 1888 Photogravure " Sutters Mill- 1851 view " from painting by George Spiel approx. 11 1/2 in x 8 1/2 inon a heavy weight matte paper NO TITLE PAGE Found a box full of these photogravures in my storage from an estate purchaseThey have been cropped from their original 14" x 19" sheetsdue to damaged edges and moisture stains to the bordersThey also contain a paper title page that was originally produced with the photogravure Photogravure is an intaglio printmaking or photo-mechanical process whereby a copper plate is grained (adding a pattern to the plate) and then coated with a light-sensitive gelatin tissue which had been exposed to a film positive, and then etched, resulting in a high-quality intaglio plate that can reproduce detailed continuous tones of a photograph.
