Description: This is a rare 1881 announcement (see picture) for the MEMORIAL SERVICE in memory of PRESIDENT JAMES A. GARFIELD, to be held at the Opera House in YPSILANTI, MICHIGAN, on September 26, 1881. President Garfield passed away on September 19, 1881. This announcement, approximately 5 inches by 9 inches in size, mentions the entire agenda, including an oration by Charles Whitman. Mr. Whitman, a distinguished orator, was Washtenaw County prosecuting attorney and a member of the Ypsilanti School Board at one time. This announcement is intact, exhibiting some wear, staining, and creasing from handling and storage over the past 141 years. It appears to have been folded at one time. Except for the words "In Memoriam, Garfield, Sept. 1881" written on the back, there is no handwriting on the announcement. It would make a nice addition to your own collection, or it would make a wonderful gift for that James Garfield enthusiast, Ypsilanti area historian, or historical memorabilia collector in your life! Postage is $4.50. And, of course I'll combine postage on multiple purchases. Sorry, NO international shipping. Be sure to check the other items in my eBay store, too!
