Description: You are bidding on an antique hardcover book titled Hillingdon Hall, or The Cockney Squire - A Tale of the Country. Although the title page doesn't show the author, it is Robert Smith Surtees. The book is illustrated with hand-colored illustrations by Wildrake, Heath and Jellicoe. The book was printed in London, England by George Routledge & Sons, Ltd. There is no printing date, but this book is attributed to the 1880's. By the author of "Handley Cross", "Jorrocks`s Jaunts and Jollities", this book is about country life in the village of Hillingdon in the mid-nineteenth century. 12 exquisitely hand coloured plates with tissue guards. The full color, hand-tinted illustrations are wonderful! Book features rust-colored cloth binding with nice gold illustration on front cover. Spine has gold lettering and gold illustrations. Spine somewhat sun faded as red binding is very unstable in sunlight. Covers securely attached. Covers have beveled edges and blind-stamped designs. All pages are clean and tightly bound with the exception of the front flyleaf which is loose and badly chipped. Book shows some edge and corner wear and remains in overall near-very good condition. This is a terrific book to add to a collection. Great gift idea. (Inventory: 1125E) Track Page Views With Auctiva's FREE Counter
