Description: This auction offers a very early textbook titled Ray's Elementary Arithmetic. It was published by the American Book Company and has a copyright date of 1879. The book is in terrible condition! The cover's edges and corners are badly work and spine is repaired with book tape. Inside many pages have writing, sums of problems that have been worked on the book, and some crayon marks. However, the content offered a student at the given age level is remarkable! The book begins with simple addition, subtraction, multiplication & division. By the end of the 192 pages it has covered money; measure, ie. long, square, cubic, liquid, and time; weight and fractions and the metric system including land, capacity and weight. Some of this material is near our present college level. I was reminded of my Dad with only a third grade education who could solve math problems in his head that I needed paper and pencil to work with my college training! If you bid this book remember it is in very poor condition. I am offering it solely on the basis of the content of the book.
