Description: This listing is for an early bound printing of "A Visit From St. Nicholas." Rare, the book is undated but known to be circa 1876 (see the 1876 Publishers Weekly page above). This is one of the earliest appearances of the poem in a children's book, and there is a nice narrative before and after the poem, with authorship is attributed to "Mr. C.C. Moore." The book is an anthology of children's stories divided into three parts: stories from Santa Claus, St. Nicholas, and Kris Kringle. It measures 5.5 x 7.5 inches with 478 pages of text and some illustrations. Construction is hardcover, red cloth over board with gilt lettering and black cover designs. Condition is good/acceptable given rarity. The spine tips are chipped across but the covers have only modest wear and still handsome. Pages show toning and scattered chips. Binding is secure. Note that the pages are pulp grade, so they should be turned with care. "A Visit From St. Nicholas" appears on page 7, part two. A rare book in any condition.
