Rundell. London : Cassell, Petter, and Galpin;.... [1869] An attractively presented and very well preserved mid Victorian edition of 'Aesop's Fables...', revised and re-written by J.B. Rundell, illustrated with numerous woodcut vignettes and full page plates by Ernest Griset. Scarce. Date from B.L. 4to, bound in original publishers blindstamped green cloth over bevel edged boards, ornately blocked in gilt in black, all page edges richly gilt. Original brown endpapers. Measuring approx 20cm by 26.5cm. The content are complete, meeting collation: xii, 244, [8]pp, including a final four leaves of publishers advertisements. Numerous woodcut vignettes and full page plates by Ernest Griset Binding firm and in very good condition, a slight lean toward the upper board, light marking to surfaces, corners and spine ends bumped and abraded but the gilt bright and unfaded. Contents firmly bound and clean, lightly toned and with some scattered minor foxing, endpaper joints firm, the upper with thin crack to topmost 7cm or so.
