This chart, embossed with the number 28, was publishedin the Report of the Superintendent of the Coast Survey showing theprogress made in the survey for the year 1864 under the supervision of A. D.Bache. We no longer refer to this general area as "Washington Sound",rather we describe it by its constituent basins (Juan de Fuca Strait, Strait ofGeorgia). The main map shows Vancouver Island, the mainland, as well as themany islands of the Juan de Fuca Strait. Much of the area not settled, showingonly occasional mines, villages, or Native American settlements. The map names theislands in the San Juan archipelago (Orcas and "Bellevue or San Juan Islands).Includes an inset map of Admiralty Inlet and Puget Sound. Admiralty Inlet ismarked much further south, in the area presently considered Puget Sound.Seattle is marked on the inset, and detail is given to the many bays andchannels of the area. Includes a detailed chart and accompanying notesregarding the tides in the region. Condition: Folding chart in good antiquecondition, good print on on age-toned paper, darker along the folds, somerepair along folds with archival-quality tape, voids at a couple of seams.
