Cudworth of the 1st MA Infantry to Washington D.C. for 48 hours to distribute monies collected for soldiers' families: “Head Quarters Army of the Potomac November 18, 1863 Special Orders No. 291 Extract The following officers are authorized to proceed to Washington for the purpose of expressing thence certain monies intrusted to them to the families of Soldiers in the Army. Their absence will not exceed 48 hours. Chaplain W. H. Cudworth 1st Mass. Vols. By command of Major Genl. Meade Fd. S. Williams [Seth Williams] a. a. Genl.” Document is then forwarded to Major and a.a.g. John Mason Norvell, Major and a.a.g. Charles Hamlin, and Capt. and a.a.g.
