Description: Here is a very nice old merchant token made of a white metal composition, in quite pleasing condition overall, measuring app. 1 & 1/16" across, with a plain edge. This classic Massachusetts merchant piece shows just modest wear, with only some minor imperfections and light marks nothing overly distracting, and I have not cleaned or altered its appearance in any manner, with three of the pictures having been "enhanced" for clarity. The token is listed as being struck during in 1860 in Rulau's reference work, where it is identified as Miller Mass 5, where the author states the establishment was a restaurant and billiard saloon. The obverse pictures the sun god and archer wearing a toga and facing right, with "Apollo" at the top, a miniscule "Merriam Boston" beneath the portrait and a wreath around. The reverse reads "Apollo Gardens - 576 Washington St. - Good For 6 Cents.", with small stars at the sides and "Hess & Speidel" at the bottom. Sweet. $220. Please note I am always happy to combine shipping costs should you win more than one of my auctions, and I usually add just a minimal additional cost per item. Your business is sincerely appreciated!
