The original wraps are bound in. With the bookplate of Lord Raglan to the front pastedown, and the library plate of Cefntilla Court to the recto of front endpaper. Raglan served in many military campaigns such as the Peninsular War and the Hundred Days. At Waterloo Raglan served on Wellington's staff. He later became the commander of the British troops sent to Crimea in 1854. Whilst in Crimea he was ordered to besiege Sevastopol. His command lead to the fateful Charge of the Light Brigade at the Battle of Balaclava. Cefntilla Court belonged to Richard Somerset, 2nd Baron Raglan. Following the death of his father, 1st Baron Raglan, a large group of his friends, admirers and comrades purchased the house and estate as a memorial to him. With a pencil inscription below the bookplate stating that this work was bound by the German prisoners in the Isle of Man 1915. With the stamp of their 'Art School' to the rear pastedown, '1915 Art School Alien Camp Douglas'. In the original French. This essay looks at the history and the life of the Duke of Wellington. CONDITION Rebound, in a full cloth binding. The original card covers are bound in. Externally, very smart with some light shelfwear to the edges. Bookplate to the front pastedown for Cefntilla Court. Prior owner's inscription to the original front wrap. Bookplate to the verso of original wrap. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright with occasional scattered spots to pages.
