In fair condition. Blind stamped & gilt decorated black leather boards normally scuffed at edges and worn at corners. Head and tail of spine rubbed; raised bands on spine scuffed with moderate soiling to gilt lettering. Both front and rear hinges are worn, but intact. Scuffing and soiling to binding, but overall leather remains attractive. Pencil scribbling found on front paste-down and fly-leaf. Gift inscription found on front end-page, in ink: “Presented to Mr. Arthur Teeple, By Mother. June 23th, 1873.” Ownership signature, in pencil, and ink stamp found on Old Testament’s frontispiece (recto): “Arthur D. Teeple.” Water or tea dampness staining found on fore-edge throughout text-block, causing some foxing and toning. Vignette title pages intact; tissue guards exhibit light off-setting from plates. Possible provenance of: Arthur Duncan Teeple (1859 - 1949) was born in Charlotteville, Norfolk, Ontario, Canada, his father, Albert Gallatin Teeple, was 34 and his mother, Mary Jane Baumwort, was 27. He married Mary Catherine Vrooman on 18 November 1880, in Charlotteville, Norfolk, Ontario, Canada. Front board exhibits emblem of the Sons of Temperance, which did have a large following in North American, including Canada. Nicely bound bible, with plates.
