The map is very detailed. Printed at bottom is William Blackwood & Son, Edinburgh & London. The map is from the masterpiece of cartography called, The Physical Atlas of Natural Phenomina by Alexander Keith Johnston, published by Lea and Blanchard Philadelphia, 1850. All of these figures were highly regarded mapmakers , publishers and printers of their day. The map is superbly printed, printed on very fine thick paper, much better than was customary for this period, with beautiful detailed period handcoloring and fascianting details. The fine handcoloring on the map is period, this is before color printing. The map is very detailed and attractive, the handcoloring and engraving on the map is just amazing, as is the detail. Quite simply, a masterpiece of cartography and mapmaking. The map is in excellent fine conditon, and would frame and display quite nicely. The size is 11" by 14.5". Rare.
