Heritage was 1847 Rogers’ offering in 1953, a time when the American silver companies were besieged by foreign competition and lifestyle changes. The design is a center floral arrangement topped by swoops and swirls in a symmetrical fashion. There is a cartouche for a monogram, even though monogramming had become rare by that time. Heritage is a pattern in the family of Grand Baroque, ornate and bold, one of a series of patterns that all the manufacturers began to make after WWII. The platter or stuffing spoon is a piece not frequently found in old American made silverware. This type of spoon is a foot or more in length, and is designed to remove stuffing from a large roast turkey at the table, or to serve food from a very large platter. This is a useful piece, and if not available in your pattern, one in the same genre can work with your table setting. The platter/stuffing spoon offered here measures about 12 3/4”. This is not a piece of new silver. It shows the patina of as much as 60 years of careful use. There are the light scratches which constitute normal patina. There is no monogram. Silver is softly lustrous. There is no silver loss. The pattern is crisp and clear. This server has been carefully used and well cared for. This server comes in a flannel wrapper which helps prevent tarnish, which is especially good for a serving piece which tends to be used only for holidays. I polish all silver before listing on eBay.
