Description: Here is a very nice old commemorative token or medalet made of brass, with a gilt appearance, in quite splendid condition overall, measuring app. 7/8" across, with a plain edge. This lovely tribute piece shows barely a whisper of storage wear, and it has toned well over the years, with great color and full detail. I have not done anything to alter or enhance its appearance, with four of the photos having been "enhanced" for clarity. The piece was made in England in 1847 to celebrate the popular "Swedish Nightengale", who made her London debut that year at Her Majesty's Theatre in London, to resounding public acclaim. Her birth date on the reverse is incorrect - she was actually born in October of 1820. The obverse features the diva facing the viewer, with "Jenny Lind" around, while the reverse pictures a lyre in an ornate, flowery wreath, "Nescit Occasum" around the top, the date "1821" at the bottom. Superb. $140.
