Though the letter is gone, the Adjutant General wrote extensive notes regarding the response that was sent regarding Private John Nowlan of the 7th Infantry, Company II. The sender appears to have written inquiring on behalf of Private Nowlan's wife who inquired about her missing husband."Albany 3rd July 1843 - John Noland, Company II, 7 Inf. Cap Morris inquiring if he is disch at the request of his wife.
