Description: This very early deep olive green rum bottle is free-blown and appears black. This bottle was dug in the 1970s beneath the streets of San Francisco. Early Black Glass Rum bottles were always exciting to find as many are very clean and nice after being buried in sand which was used for landfill in what is now known as the Financial District. This one is from the early 1800s and stands 8 inches tall and 3 inches across the base. The deep kick-up base has a ground pontil rough to the touch and is 1 and 1/4 inches deep. See all photos. Notice the ringed lip on this one as it is wavy at the top and somewhat crude but very nicely applied. Lots of very tiny bubbles with light stretch marks from which adds much appeal. This is one of the better ones found and in near mint condition with no scratches, no cracks or chips and super clean and they come no better than this nearly 200 year old example. Hope you may enjoy adding this to your collection. A beauty to behold and to own a piece of San Francisco’s early history. This is from my collection. Thanks for looking David
