Description: Rarity and Survival Estimates Survival Grades Estimate All Grades 400 60 or Better 100 65 or Better 15 The Survival Estimate represents an average of one or more experts' opinions as to how many examples survive of a particular coin in three categories: 1) all grades, 2) 60 or better, and 3) 65 or better. These estimates are based on a variety of sources, including population reports, auction appearances, and personal knowledge. Survival estimates include coins that are raw, certified by PCGS, and certified by other grading services. Ron Guth: Thanks to some different-sized punches, 1835 Half Dimes come in at least four different, major varieties: Small Date, Large 5C. Small Date, Small 5C. Large Date, Large 5C. Large Date, Small 5C. Of these varieties, the Large Date, Large 5C is the most common (by far), followed by the Small Date, Small 5C, then the Small Date, Large 5C and the Large Date, Small 5C (these two are of approximately equal rarity). The 1835 Smalll Date, Small 5C Half Dime is relatively scarce in Mint State, but can be found in all grades, mostly in 64, but even as high as 68 (in fact, this variety is among only four dates in the entire series representative at this extremely high level).
