It is a non-tradable, replica coin.Tribute replica of one of the the world's most rare and beautiful coins.Souvenir, collectible for a coin collection. This coin year and type was included in the one-of-a-kind, world-famous set that President Andrew Jackson gave to the King of Siam as a gift from the United States in 1836. The legend began in 1834. Andrew Jackson, the president of the “common man,” was serving his second term in the White House. As the young nation fought Native Americans at home, it also fought to find its place in the world outside its borders. To give as gifts to foreign dignitaries, President Jackson directed the Philadelphia Mint to strike special sets of Gold, Copper and Silver coins in use at the time. These sets of 10 coins also included a gold medal engraved with a portrait of President Jackson. Historians believe that only four such sets were ever produced. In 1835, one of them set sail on the U.S.S. Peacock for a voyage halfway around the world. The following year it was presented by American diplomat Edmund Roberts to Ph’ra Nang Klao, ruler of the ancient Kingdom of Siam, known today as Thailand. Legend has it that the set passed into the hands of Anna Leonowens, the English teacher at the court of Siam made famous in the Broadway and movie musical, The King and I. After her death in 1915, the historic collection disappeared. Later in the century it resurfaced in the possession of an American collector. The collection’s fame grew when, 150 years after it was minted, it was displayed at the Smithsonian Institution in 1983. Of the four original sets produced, only one — this famed King of Siam collection — survives today. Acclaimed as the world’s premiere numismatic treasure, it was purchased by a private collector in 2001 for more than $4 million. It is insured for more than $10 million. This extraordinary Tribute coin lets discriminating collectors experience for themselves the excitement of owning a replica of one of the rare coins that was a part of the legendary King of Siam Set. Masterfully crafted to the most exacting standards, each Tribute Proof is distinguished by an intricately frosted design set against a brilliant, mirrored background.
