Description: 1825/4/(2) CAPPED BUST SILVER QUARTER B-2 Overdate & RPD Cherrypickers' Guide Variety(FS-302) (A die dated 1822 was over-dated first with a 4 and then a 5, while the 8 is repunched) ATTRIBUTION:1825 Browning 2, showing star 8 low and with a small 5 reverse and can be considered an excellent "type issue" for Large Sized Capped Bust Quarters. A study by Steve Tompkins in his Early United States Quarters 1796 - 1838 (2008), suggests convincingly that all three 1825 varieties were struck with just two different obverses, both of which are in fact 1825/4/2 overdates. The first was used only for the B-1 marriage, while the second was used for B-2, then lapped, and reemployed for B-3. The available data suggests that both dies were prepared in 1822, but were unneeded for production, so they were shelved. Then, in 1825, they were overdated once more and finally used for coinage. Additionally the 8 shows repunching on the lower loop. This high grade specimen has a nice light pewter-tan surfaces. 100% AUTHENTIC GUARANTEED!
