PROVENANCE: Published in 'The Gentleman's Magazine....'. The Gentleman's Magazine was a monthly magazine founded in London, England, by Edward Cave in January 1731. It ran uninterrupted for almost 200 years, until 1922. It was the first to use the term magazine (from the French magazine, meaning "storehouse") for a periodical. Samuel Johnson's first regular employment as a writer was with The Gentleman's Magazine. This view was first published for Sir William Chambers series of prints of Kew Gardens. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Farnworth is a town in the Metropolitan Borough of Bolton, Greater Manchester, England,[2] 2.3 miles (3.7 km) southeast of Bolton, 4.3 miles south-west of Bury (7 km), and 7.5 miles (12.1 km) northwest of Manchester. St John the Evangelist's Church is in Church Street. St John's was built as a Commissioners' church between 1824 and 1826 to a design by Thomas Hardwick.
