The Levant Hull, or la coque de Levant, is a species of climbing shrub from the Menispermaceae family, native to tropical Asia. The fruits of the plant cause dizziness, vomiting, seizures, and muscle spasms, possibly being fatal if eaten in high doses. This work examines the shrub, and the fruit it grows. Written by Pierre-Francoise-Guillaume Boullay, a French pharmacist and chemist. He was a chemistry preparer for Louis-NIcolas Vauquelin, and ran his own pharmacy. He directed the Academy of Medicine in 1834. He is known for being the first to transform alcohol into ether. CONDITION Disbound. Externally, the outer leaves are lightly age-toned with the odd spot. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned with the odd light spot. Small puncture marks to the gutter.
