Description: [ITALIAN HERITAGE, ITALY, GENEALOGY, FOLK ART] On offer here is a LARGE & FANTASTIC HANDPAINTED, ITALIAN GENEALOGY FAMILY TREE OF THE MONFERRATO LINEAGE. The work is rendered on paper which is then backed on linen or canvas and attached to wooden rods for hanging. The lineage is shown as a typical 'family tree' in with the trunk and branches representing the various important members of the Monferrato family. The oldest date we see showing on the work is 933, but the name of Guglielmo I shows below and we believe he was living (or perhaps died ?) in 924 AD. At the top of the genealogy, the two oldest dates affixed to names on the piece are '1910' & '1915'. Based on the style of writing and the type of paper and paint, we believe this was created between about 1860 - 1880. The large painted piece measures 57 in wide x 72.75 in high. There is some marginal staining and tears as shown, but for a fantastic and rare piece such as this, condition issues of this sort should be expected. The piece came from the Estate of a 'Mrs. Moretti' who had it for over 50 yrs. We were also told her family immigrated from Italy around the turn of the century. All in all, a rare and magnificent artifact of museum quality and deserving of more research and certainly display. It's hard to imagine a better collectible for the person of Italian heritage.
