1790 Federal City (Washington DC) Embossed Lottery Ticket - Rare Samuel Blodget

Description: This is for a 1790 Federal City (Washington DC) Embossed Lottery Ticket - Rare with embossed printing on laid paper. "For the Improvement of the FEDERAL CITY." Signed by Sam Blodget. In 1790, President George Washington signed a law that allowed the U.S. capital to be constructed in a ten-square-mile federal district on the banks of the Potomac River. The new "federal city" was named Washington the following year 1791. Blodget (a Revolutionary War veteran, Boston merchant, and architect) was one of the earliest land speculators in the new Federal City. He also submitted architectural designs for the U.S. capital to the Commissioners of the Federal City and, in 1793, was appointed Superintendent of Buildings. He later designed the First Bank of the United States building in Philadelphia. Blodget's Lottery schemes, including a Hotel (in another lottery scheme), failed and he died penniless in Baltimore in 1814.In great condition with a slight dog-ear corner. See Pictures.
