Becket. 1767, 3 volumes, 180, 195, and 230 pp, 6.25” x 4.25”, 8vo, hardcover full leather. As-is, with front board of Volume I detached and front board of Volume II loose. Some wear to remainder of boards. Rubbing and wear to exterior and loss to head and heel of spines, primarily on Volume II. Text blocks remain bound well. Light markings and marginalia. Light instances of staining remnants. General age-related toning to pages, along with periodic foxing and wear. Please see photographs and ask any questions prior to purchasing. A scarce New Edition (first published 1763) of the travels of Mary Wortley Montagu (1689-1762), an English writer, poet, and aristocrat. Montagu is best known today for her writings, especially her promotion of inoculation for smallpox, which she discovered while stationed with her diplomat husband in the Ottoman Empire. After much resistance in Europe the practice became more accepted, especially among the nobility. A great set for restoration. COLT1767CFJX-0524-aj1699
