To which are added A Morning & Evening Prayer for the closest or Family, The Second Edition. With engraved Frontispiece. Printed 1739 for Edward Wicksteed at the Black Swan in Newgate Street, London. The book measures 10cm x 15cm. There are some signs of age, use and wear. The black leather hardback binding has some shelf wear. Edges of the boards, spine and raised bands on the spine have some wear. Gilt Title on the spine reads The Alter, gilt bright. Some general surface wear, scratches, marks. Boards holding well, no splitting of the spine or hinges, solid and sturdy. Yellowed Paste-downs are discoloured and foxed. There is age/use related page discolouration/foxing dotted throughout. All text legible. It looks like a blank page was removed/cut directly after the title page, remnants of the page present in the gutter . Text block solid. Page edges are gold gilded but noticeable fading and scratching of the gilt. Previous owner inscriptions on the inside front cover, and the second blank end paper. Two different names in ink. Overall the book remains in good reading condition considering it’s age, with as described clear signs of age, use and wear. A scarce early edition.
