The book constitutes an excellent history of the 15th Virginia Infantry. It details the history of the command providing descriptions of battles and campaigns, it activities and operations, specifics on individual soldiers in the command, and contains maps, illustrations and photographs. The book contains a comprehensive unit roster with the Civil WAr service records of individual soldiers from the unit. The 15th Regiment Virginia Infantry, known as the Richmond regiment, contained ten companies hen mustered into service. Four of the original companies were from the city, three of them were from Henrico Country, and three were from Hanover County. Only eight of the original companies reenlisted for the war in 1862. Two of the city companies failed to reorganize. No new companies were assigned to the 15th, and it served for the duration of the war with only eight companies. The 15th first saw action at big Bethel in 1861. In 1862, the regiment was engages at Savage Station, Malvern Hill, south Mountain, and Sharpsburg. At Fredericksburg, the regiment was in line of battle but not engaged. In 1863, the men of the 15th took part in the Suffolk campaign and remained in central Virginia when the Army of Northern Virginia marched into Pennsylvania. When the year closed out, the 15th was in eastern Tennessee. It returned to southeastern Virginia early in 1864 and then was sent to eastern North Carolina. In May of that year it returned to Virginia and rejoined the Army of Northern Virgin. It remained with the army unit the end of the war. Only 1000 copies of this book were printed. The book is new and in pristine, unread condition. It comes in a new, pristine condition dust jacket. The book is part of The Virginia Regimental Histories Series and is handsomely published in Confederate-gray, cloth covers with bright, gold-gilded lettering and the image of the seal of the series on the cover. The book is clean, sharp, and bright; it has no wear, bumping, or rubbing. The interior is in excellent condition as well. The pages are clean, bright white, and don’t have a mark on them. There is no writing, smudging, writing, stamps, pasteboard or other markings. The author’s signature is strong and clear. The binding is fine and soldily throughout.
