1/35 Pz.Kpfw.IV Ausf.D w/5cm KwK L/60 Dragon #6736 Factory Sealed MISB

Description: I want to clear some space on my shelves, so I need to part with some of my collection. THIS IS MY LAST ONE! The Panzer IV family of tanks had many branches and variants that took the original design far beyond the initial vision. The experience in the Battle of France showed a need for more penetrating power for the tank corps. This tank was a prototype built to put a more powerful 50mm gun in the Panzer IV turret. It proved to be possible, but since the battle ended so quickly, the project was cancelled. The Panzer IV was later upgunned with a long-barreled 75mm gun, but that was another branch. This model represents the only prototype made and it makes an interesting addition to any armored collection. I found dozens of listings for this kit on eBay (only three from the US), but as a Top Rated Plus US Seller, I have it in stock and can reliably ship this kit very quickly. Here is some of the info I found about this kit from around the web: The Dragon Models site (dragon-models.com) shows the box art and five photos of an assembled, unpainted model. They also present one of their trademark full color posters along with an informative blurb about this outstanding kit: Dragon offers a comprehensive lineup of 1/35 scale kits in the popular Panzer IV family tree but owing to the vehicle’s widespread use by German forces throughout the entirety of WWII, there’s always room for something new and special! Thus, the newest Panzer IV plastic kit from Dragon is an Ausf.D featuring a 5cm KwK39 L/60 main gun. Production of the Ausf.D had commenced in 1939, with some 229 tanks produced altogether, these mounting the short-barreled 7.5cm KwK37 L/24 gun. However, this kit features something different, a variant of the weapon used on the 5cm PaK38 towed gun, which was tested on a Panzer IV Ausf.D hull in 1941. It was considered a potential solution to the difficulties that German tank guns experienced penetrating the armor of British Matilda tanks in the Battle of France. This 1/35 scale plastic kit adds new appeal to the fantastically detailed Ausf.D already available in Dragon’s collection. The new item obviously makes use of all the accurate components from the existing Ausf.D kit, but it adds the appropriate 5cm L/60 gun. In fact, the gun is completely represented, from the muzzle tip to the complete breech inside the turret. There are easy-to-assemble track links made from Dragon’s patented DS formula. Modelers can be assured that this kit thus fits together with ease, even easier than before. The end result is a unique model of a prototypical Pz.Kpfw.IV tank. It’s all part of the family! · Very detailed chassis and suspension· Detailed bow machine gun· Positionable viewports· Positionable crew hatches· Movable turret· Detailed turret interior· Detailed Pak 38 (modified) main gun· Nice exterior details and pioneering tools· Positionable rear turret basket cover Scalemates.com has a listing that shows this is a 2015 release based on a tooling from 2005. There is a link to download the complete 2-color, 8-page instruction set and painting guide. There are also several links to reviews, resources and many galleries of photos of completed Panzer IV projects. Michael Benolkin published a nice First Look Review on the cybermodeler.com site that starts with a brief description of the development of this vehicle. He includes a half-dozen photos of the sprues, hull and turret parts, photo etched metal fret and DS tracks. He lists the kit features and at the end of the review, his final words were: “This kit has a number of small parts to build up the interior and exterior details. This won't be a problem for the experienced modeler who wants to have one of the unique Ausf.D up-gunned prototypes.” Jacob Hederstierna-Johnse did a great In-Box Review on the archive.armorama.com site that gives an overview of the subject and the kit contents. There are about 30 clear photos of the sprues, hull and superstructure, PE parts, decals and instructions. The review is organized by assembly: Suspension, Lower Hull, Upper Hull, Fenders, Tracks, Turret and Painting/Markings. He highly recommends the kit and his Conclusion opens with: “This is truly a very nice kit, with lots of crisp details and excellent moldings. The subject is almost paper panzer, but not really, since at least one was produced.” Tom Kondziolka created a condensed In-Box Review on the amps-armor.org site where he gives you a great look at the parts through about 30 detailed photos. He points out the history of this one-of-a-kind tank and offers his opinions on the execution by Dragon. He was definitely a fan of the kit, saying: “The kit looks like it will be a great build; I can hardly wait to get started!” This kit is in a lovely, sturdy box about 15” x 9.5” x 3”. As you can see from the pictures, the package is in excellent condition and still sealed with the original tape disks, so I consider it factory sealed and absolutely gift-ready. This item contains one complete injection molded plastic model kit with over 400 grey and clear plastic parts, including a set of one-piece DS tracks, a fret of photo etched metal parts and two small sets of Cartograf decals. It requires cement and paint to complete as shown. I use eBay Managed Payments, but I no longer ship internationally. Auction winner pays winning bid and for a limited time, this unique item is offered with $9 Flat Rate Shipping in the US! No reserve and a low starting bid. Check out my other great auctions for combined shipping. Good luck! Those familiar with my listings can tell that I really enjoy these products and the modeling hobby. I like to provide more than just the bare facts about the items, trying to lead you into discovering more about the subjects and optimizing your builds (if that is your goal). I started out picking up models that I was interested in, with the eye toward building them when I had time. Always a bargain-hunter, I accumulated many more than I can build, so I found myself in a Collector status (sounds nicer than a hoarder). As I am sure you have noticed, my items are almost always sealed and in mint condition (I call them Gift-Ready), since I only open them when I am ready to build them. Now I enjoy making these products available to my fellow modelers; both Builders and Collectors. For the Builders, there are probably better (at least cheaper) ways to add to your project lists than buying from me, but you know you are getting top quality. For Collectors, my goal is to save you a few bucks over the competition for the same item in factory sealed and collectible (or resellable) condition.
