Description: #113 Roses are Red Violets are Blue, Bisque Nancy Ann Storybook Doll, 1940s. Jointed bisque arms, frozen legs, painted black slippers. Original costume including red taffeta dress with pantalets beneath, red felt hat decorated with millinery flowers and ribbon. Dress is fastened with ribbon as was the practice during the war years when metal for pins & snaps was not available. No box or tag. Identified through Elaine Pardee's Encyclopedia of Bisque Nancy Ann Storybook Dolls, page 124. See photos. Doll is cleaned, arms restrung. Dress is cleaned and pressed. Original but re-dyed flowers on her bonnet. Her forehead has a tiny black scuff. Ribbon on bonnet is a bit frayed. Dress and bonnet are a faded to a brick color. See photos. Check my other listings. I have more than 30 restoration projects completed, all ready to display. I do combine shipping. Nancy Ann Storybook Dolls were created by Nancy Ann Abbott, with the bisque ones made from 1936-1947. This doll has an entirely bisque body with bisque arms, indicating she is likely from the early 40s. The company transitioned to plastic arms in the late 1940s and to all plastic dolls in the early 50s. Since bisque dolls are 75 years old, they are quite fragile, and the fabric may be imperfect. However, I make it a priority to note any flaws I see as well as any repairs I have made. About me: I’m a 17- year-old collector who has been amassing all sorts of dolls (especially Nancy Ann Dolls, my favorite) since I was 8. Recently, I’ve started sorting out my collection and restoring dolls I find in need.
