Description: One packet of more than 100 seeds. = = = Raising hybrid Streptocarpus (Cape Primrose) from seed is a great indoor project for gardeners and plant lovers. We are offering a mix of seeds from the named hybrid Streptocarpus cultivars (pictured in this order) 'DS 2003,' 'Hope,' 'Game of Imagination,' 'Salmon Sunset,' 'Burgundy Ruffles,' 'Leyla,' 'Freizett,' 'DS 1289,' 'Purple Panda,' 'Ruby,' 'Nerys,' 'Split,' and (not pictured) 'Blue Clover,' 'Megan,' and 'Spin Art.' The flowers were hand-cross-pollinated with pollen from each other and from several other named cultivars, including the two pictured -- 'Lolita' and 'Wow' -- as well as many others (not pictured), such as 'Keigetsu,' 'Full Moon,' 'Jasmin,' 'Cherry Roulette,' 'Kalahari,' 'DS Neznyi Angel,' 'DS Gotika,' 'DS Motzart,' 'Kika,' Harlequins 'Lace,' 'Damsel,' 'Ruby,' and 'Rose,' 'Hebe,' 'Kahinta,' 'Anna Sui,' and 'Roberto Cavalli.' Many of the pollen parents are large, ruffled flowers that do not produce seeds but do produce pollen. Some self-pollination may also have occurred. Other (better) photos of these cultivars can be found elsewhere online. You will find pictures of some plants raised from our Named Cultivars Mix on our blog: Primrose Fields, Scenes form a Garden in Edmonton Canada. Once there, look in the category 'Streptocarpus Propagation.' These seeds were produced in 2022 and collected at the end of the year, in autumn and winter. Stored cool and dry, they will remain viable for two years or longer. These seeds can be shipped safely at any time of year. We have tested seeds stored outdoors for several days at temperatures colder than -20C and they germinated just fine. Plants raised from these seeds will not be identical to the parent(s). Some will resemble one or both of the parents in colour, form, or markings, and some may not closely resemble either parent. Expect to be surprised and delighted. Seeds begin to sprout around two weeks after sowing, and first flower buds can appear 4-6 months later (depending on the time of year and growing conditions). Display your potted plants outdoors in summer, in a cool, shady spot, or keep them indoors in a window or under lights. A well-tended plant at its peak, usually beginning in late spring, will cascade with blossoms for many weeks, and can go on flowering, at a lesser rate, through autumn and right up to the darkest days of winter. Streps are easy, rewarding houseplants all year round. We have them sitting in windows on every side of the house, where they flourish in bright, indirect natural light. The germination test photo shows seeds, now seedlings, after 17 days. Most are now large enough to be lifted with a toothpick and placed onto moistened potting mix. The seeds are very small and can be tricky to handle, but each packet is sure to contain more than the stated number. We also provide a page of detailed instructions to get you started. = = =A Note on ShippingOrders are shipped from Canada via standard letter-mail.
